Previous Arup Associates' success at the International Design Awards includes Sky Studios Wind Turbine which was awarded Gold in the Sustainable Living Category.

The spiralling and tapering tower effectively mitigates the risk of resonant excitation from wind vortices through innovative passive design, without expensive damping systems. The twist of the tower acts in a similar way to a ‘strake’ commonly used on the tops of chimneys; introducing asymmetry to the flow which prevents the build-up of regular wind vortices. The perforated cladding also helps to mitigate direct excitation from wind, by allowing some wind to pass directly through the tower.
