CLIENT:
GDMZH PEARL RED SPRITIS AND WINES CO LTD
LOCATION:
XINGNING, SOUTH CHINA

The Mingzhu Winery is a 150,000sqm traditional ‘Baiju’ (Chinese traditional rice wine) factory for a 500 year old exclusive brand relaunching itself for the international market.

Nestled in a beautiful 1.5km long tea valley, the complex is arranged along a 1km long pedestrian spine with a high level walk way providing views into the whole process.

Below this is an arcade to provide shelter for workers in this hot, humid environment. In the centre is a circular courtyard building for visitor galleries, restaurant, offices and laboratories. The courtyard is sized for the annual staff dinner.

The facility has been designed to maximise standardisation and use of modular offsite construction. This will assist the contractor to build efficiently and to high quality in a challenging rural location.

Echoing traditional Hakka buildings, the winery will create a new kind of ‘Baijiu’ tourism for China, introducing connoisseurs and the general public to the process and art of traditional wine production.
